I watched him kiss the U.S. ground when he got off the plain, and kept the front page of the news paper with him on it. I saved the bracelet and front page news. When I was around 32yrs, I was at a cocktail party in Spain with my husband. I happen to talk to a man who said he was from Iron Mountain, Michigan. I said "do you by chance know of a man named Martin Neuens?" He said, as a matter of fact I do. He's my wife's Uncle. I gave this fellow my phone number and asked that he give it to his wife to call me. Several weeks later I got a call and was given Martin's addresses. I wrote him and sent the bracelet and news article. About a week later Captain Martin Neuens called me. What a nice man. He also sent me a letter that I still have. I think I will write him. I never knew there was more then one bracelet made for each POW. I sent him the full bracelet. But most that found him only sent him half. I guess it was some that was done so they each had a part of it. I thought it was more valuable to his family to have the entire thing. Thanks for posting your story. I posted mine years ago, but it looks like it didn't stick.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11829118370824981497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340434845550457797.post-17260144637443265132020-11-11T21:20:50.098-08:002020-11-11T21:20:50.098-08:00My POW-MIA bracelet when I was 11 (almost 12) was ...My POW-MIA bracelet when I was 11 (almost 12) was Capt. Martin J. Neuens. I watched him step off of the airplane when he returned home in 1973. An impressionable 13-year-old at the time I can say that experience has never left me. I did reach out through messenger this evening. And actually watched a video clip from 2016 on You-Tube tonight also. Today being Veterans Day like years past I think of him often throughout the day. I don't know but perhaps with all that has happened in 2020 I have often wondered how someone you never knew, never met, talked to etc. but, wore their name around your wrist could have so much impact on you and create a connection in such a way that some 45 plus years later it's still there. I am ever grateful for the experience it has been for me.Angela Meekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11182400544457187716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340434845550457797.post-31602919089164599172020-11-09T13:24:52.270-08:002020-11-09T13:24:52.270-08:00Bracelets of Grace is now available at Audible.

Many were wearing his bracelet in his honor, but I could not find one with his name so I selected the bracelet with the earlist capture date that I could find amongst the batches I checked. His name was Capt Martin J Neuens. I wore the bracelet faithfully, even coating the inside with clear polish because of an allergy to the metal. After a number of years of bending it to fit my (then)tiny wrist,it broke and I put it in my jewelry box. Years later, in 1973 I got engaged to my husband and a month later his older sister got engaged ,too setting their wedding for a short time later. Her fiance came from another state than our home.Very soon there was great excitment because his brother, a long time POW was coming home to be his best man. As the wedding neared, there was lots of talk of 'Marty'and the joy that he would be able to attend. One day a light bulb just lit up and I said,'What is Marty's real name?' Martin J. Neuens. Disbelief. Marty came,we met,he beat me at cards (with great glee and a little sleight of hand),and he shared happiness and celebrated his brothers wedding with his family! Small world. The bracelet broke in half, I'm sure to the constant wear, but I had refused to take it off...even wearing it to the prom. In 1973, I was watching the local news and saw Capt Neuens get off the plane at Wright-Patterson AFB when he and the others were released from their POW camp. I live in Dayton Ohio and, had I known that this was going to happen...I would have been at the airfield that day. I grew up and spent over 41-years working for the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB. I have been looking for Capt Neuens for several years as I always wanted to send him the bracelet. After doing some recent on-line searching, I believe Capt Neuens passed away in 2011. I believe he knows how many of us wore his bracelet and never stopped thinking of him and the other POWs. Martin J. Neuens ...I wore my POW bracelet for Capt. Martin J. Neuens for 3 yrs, it broke in half. I'll always remember the thrill of seeing him return and the photo in the Detroit papers of him kissing the ground upon returning to the US. I was/am a passionate supporter of all who fought, endured, became changed, lived, died and however survived this tortuous war. My cousin flew a med-evac helicopter and came home. Tom Adams. I did not contact Capt. Neuens and have always regretted it. He was a big part of my life as a young teenager-I was so humbled to wear that bracelet that finally wore thin and broke in half. Glad to see there are others who wore it and thought of him and prayed for him. I want him to know how honored I felt and how connected I felt to him. It's possible all that positivity was a factor in his safe return. The second time, he was captured and sent to the Hanoi Hilton where he was held captive for a year. He also published a book about his experiences. I would love to return his bracelet to him. At the time, you could get a sticker, round blue with white star or round white with blue star signifying if your person was a POW or an MIA. Mine was MIA. There was also a clearing house where you could send letters to the family. I did and it turned out my Major had kids my age and they wrote back. We corresponded for a little bit. Flash forward many years later, I found my bracelet. I had become an Air Force officer myself and was now a civilian again with kids of my own. I googled my Major and found his remains, and that of his crew, had been found in 1993 and identified in 2000. They were buried together in Arlington National Cemetary and subsequently had their names etched into the Vietnam Memorial. While chaperoning an 8th grade field trip to DC, I brought my bracelet and returned it to the rightful owner. I laid it at the base of the wall bearing his name, overcome with emotion. Here is Major, now Lt Col, Van Buren's story.http://arlingtoncemetery.net/oct262000.htm http://taskforceomegainc.org/V001.html Marehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09434989677690443332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340434845550457797.post-27168314727418217912014-05-20T00:56:57.255-07:002014-05-20T00:56:57.255-07:00Last night I was going through some boxes of "...Last night I was going through some boxes of "stuff" and found my bracelet for Capt Marten Neuens. I wore a copper bracelet with his name in the probably late 1970's. I was laying brick one day and got it caught, tearing a bit of a gash in my wrist. As was typical of me during those times, I ignored it. Days later, it was so infected it was badly swollen and running blood poisoning streaks up my arm. Required considerable cutting and draining, and during the several days of bandaged recovery, I misplaced the bracelet. I haven't seen it since, and I only now thought to search for his name, which I never forgot. Thank God for his return and for the closure of sorts that this gives to me.Ken Clemmerhttp://www.backporchbandits.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340434845550457797.post-5908880550434014432013-09-27T05:50:18.269-07:002013-09-27T05:50:18.269-07:00I do believe all of the ideas you have introduced ...I do believe all of the ideas you have introduced for <br />your post.
